‘Daze At Sea’ is Here At Last

August 1, 2012

‘Daze at Sea’ is the latest in a long line of high quality, and in some cases iconic, surf videos brought to us by the crew who claim, “only a surfer knows the feeling”.  The stars of the show are four up and coming talents from the Billabong stables: Jack Freestone, Ian Gentil, Peterson Crisanto and Ryan Callinan.  They are joined by a solid mix of other surfers including Granger Larsen and Creed McTaggart who could have easily shared top billing with the fabulous foursome of leading men, and cameos from more recognizable ‘bong riders like Laurie Towner, Rasta and Parko.  In a refreshing change from the norm of industry promo videos, there are also appearances by Evan Geiselman, John John Florence, Julian Wilson, Chippa Wilson, Dusty Payne, Reef McIntosh and others who don’t pick up pay checks from the company putting on the party.

Viktor Pakpour is the creative 20-year old Californian who filmed, edited and directed the action.  He’s divided up the film into parts corresponding to the different locations visited in Hawaii, Indonesia, Australia and France.  The result is a mix of arty, sexy and surfy, with a selection of music, which is all over the shop, but fits perfectly with the edit and ambiance of each segment.  While there is nothing new in surf filmmaking today, Viktor has mixed influences from the best in the business, Jack McCoy, Taylor Steele, and Kai Neville to create a finished product that is uniquely his own.

If you want to watch this little masterpiece on one of the rare occasions when you are out of the reach of Internet access, you can download it for free at www.dazeatsea.com.
