There is an old expression, the nose, knows. Well the Nose on El Capitan in Yosemite’s National Park now knows a new women’s speed climbing record as of June 11, 2012. Huge congratulations to Americans Jes Meiris and Quinn Brett for finishing the 32-pitch climb in 10 hours and 19 minutes.
The duo bested the last record set by Libby Sauter and Chantel Astorga in September of 2011 by 21 minutes.
According to Rock and Ice, the pair didn’t originally expect to break the record and expected the day to be a practice attempt. Conditions were ideal but they did end up having to overtake three parties en route making the accomplishment even more impressive.
Both women live and guide in Colorado. Meiris, 30, is a climbing instructor in Colorado Springs and works for the Rocky Mountain Field Institute. Brett, 31, lives in Estes Park and founded a climbing-yoga company called Dovetail Mountain Endeavors. Both work with SOS International, a non-profit based in Avon, Colorado which empowers youth through outdoor activities.
